Sponable Grabs Weekly Honor Again
GREENVILLE, S.C. -- For the second time this month, Alexis Sponable has been named as the NCCAA DII Women's Soccer Student-Athlete of the Week.
The Middleville, Michigan native scored her third hat-trick of the season in a 3-1 win over Rockford last Tuesday, and followed that up with the game-winning goal in the Sabercats' 1-0 defeat of North Central University on Friday.
The 4-goal week brings Sponable to 16 goals this season, which is 7th all-time in Maranatha Women's Soccer history.
Going into the final game of the week last week - a 0-1 overtime loss to Bethany Lutheran - Sponable averaged more than 2 goals per game over a 5-game stretch, as she netted 11 times in 5 contests.
The next test for Sponable and the Sabercats will be next weekend at the NCCAA Regional Tournament hosted by Emmaus Bible College in Dubuque, Iowa.
