Sponable Strikes Again
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. -- Alexis Sponable kept her goal-scoring résumé up to date last week, as she shelled Faith Baptist for a hat-trick that happened in just under an eight-minute stretch.
The hat-trick (the sixth of her career) fueled a 4-0 regional win, and that performance earned her the AD3I and the NCCAA Student-Athlete of the Week awards. This is the third time this season that Sponable has been named as the AD3I weekly recipient, and it is her second "double" this year.
Sponable now has 16 goals on the season - a mark which matches her total from last year. Sponable now has 67 career points, which lands her in ninth place in program history.
Sponable and the Sabercats have earned the #1 seed for the NCCAA North Region Tournament, and have a bye into the championship at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Sabercats will play the winner of Faith Baptist Bible College and Providence University College to determine the North Region crown.
