THE LEAD

FOND DU LAC, Wis. -- The Sabercats had their hands full against their second NACC opponent of the week, falling in straight sets tonight to the Marian University Sabres.

It was not the cleanest night of the season for the Sabercats, as they recorded just 11 kills and 11.0 points - their lowest tallies in those categories this season.

THE STORY

Some mid-set kills in the opening set propelled a 12-3 run for Marian, who showed the Sabercats right from the start that a win in Fond du Lac was going to be easier said than done. A 13-2-23 attack line for the Sabres was a bold statement indeed, as they held the Sabercats to just 10 points in the opening frame - MBU's lowest points total of the entire match.

Errors continued to plague the Sabercats in the second set. Rory Massey and Devon Steuerwald both registered kills but once again, the Sabres' attack was too strong for the Sabercats. After a 13-25 win for Marian, the hosts were 1 set away from the win.

In the third set, Derek Wallis whacked down 2 early kills to keep the Sabercats in it, but a 12-2 run gave Marian firm control of the match once again. Marian earned just 1 of their last 10 points, as 9 consecutive errors ended the match "with a whimper" for MBU.

THE NUMBERS

Wallis was held to 6 kills on the night and recorded 7 kills.

Marian recorded 31 kills as a team. Aaron Wendels led the efforts for the hosts with 11.

Joey Dittman did his part in Marian's 5-1 offense, as he dished out 26 assists.
