Sabercats Wrap Up Season with Home Doubleheader

WATERTOWN, Wis. --- The Sabercats had one last hurrah at Brandt-Quirk Park, as today's doubleheader was moved to Watertown after the rain rendered Milwaukee fields unplayable. Despite the home-field advantage, the Sabercats could not pull out the win, as they fell 0-5 and 5-15 to the Blue Angels of Mount Mary University to close out the season.
The Sabercats finish the 2017 season with a 7-24 record while the Blue Angels improve to 13-18 with the wins.
In game one, Mount Mary did most of their scoring in the second inning, as they pushed four runs across. Senior Jess Runge slammed a bases-loaded triple to bring home three runs, and Runge was quickly brought home with a double from Madison Ledda.
MMU added one more run in the sixth, and Hannah Harnsberger was credited with the win after pitching four shutout innings. Harnsberger limited the Sabercats to just one hit in her time in the circle. (5-0)
Game two yielded offensive outbursts for the visitors, as they posted three runs in the first and eight runs in the third to take firm control of the game.
MBU tried to answer, as Jessica Christensen drove in Allison Epperly with an RBI single in the second to put the Sabercats on the board. MBU plated two more in the third, then in the fourth, RBI singles from Maisy Alldredge and Hannah May upped the Sabercats tally to five. But MBU's answers came up short, as Mount Mary's defense held their sizeable lead to secure the win and the series sweep. (5-15)

Overall, it was undeniably a season of marked improvement for MBU, as they posted their best win total since 2011, and their best winning percentage since 2000. Other individual records were approached as well, which will be outlined in an upcoming season recap.
