THE LEAD

WATERTOWN, Wis. – Rockford University came to Watertown with a point to prove, and they proved it by sweeping today's doubleheader at Brandt-Quirk Park.

Kylee Zempel recorded a double and a triple on the day, but the Sabercats could not generate the offensive power they needed.

THE STORY

Zempel recorded her second double of the season in game 1, but that was the only true threat the Sabercats could muster. Tina Kolinski and Harmony Bailey both notched singles, but a 4-run sixth inning for Rockford essentially sealed the game for the visitors in the opener. After 7 innings, Rockford completed a 7-0 win.

---

Rockford notched 5 runs through the first 2 innings in the second game, but Zempel proved her worth at the plate once again, whacking an RBI triple down the right-field line to push Joylynn Molencupp across the plate in the bottom of the second. MBU had cut a small piece out of the Rockford lead - 5-1 Rockford.

The Sabercats managed just the 1 run in the second inning, and the fun would stop there for MBU, as Rockford registered 6 runs in the fourth inning to take a 12-1 lead through 4 frames.

The Regents tacked 4 more runs on the board in the fifth inning to extend the lead out to 16-1. Up came Megan Rasmussen, who joined Zempel in the triples club by recording her second career triple to bring home Kolinski. Rasmussen soon crossed the plate with some heads-up baserunning on a passed ball, but that 2-run showing was all the Sabercats could muster in the final inning, as the game ended after 5 innings per the run rule.

THE STATS

Zempel's triple was her first in Blue and Gold. She and Rasmussen are the third and fourth Sabercats to record a triple this season.

Molencupp recorded the only other hit in the second game for the Sabercats. Maranatha recorded 5 hits on the day.

Bailey recorded 4 strikeouts in the first game. She has fanned exactly 4 batters in 8 of her 11 starts this season.
