RIPON, Wis. -- The Sabercats showed improvement in their second match of the season against Ripon, falling to the Red Hawks 3-0 at Prairie Field this afternoon.

The Sabercats will now look forward to their first NCCAA North Region test on Saturday, as they travel to Faith Baptist Bible College for a rematch of the 2021 North Region Championship.

OVERVIEW

  • Result: Maranatha 0-3 Ripon
  • Venue: Prairie Field - Ripon College
  • Location: Ripon, Wis.
  • Attendance: 51
  • Record: MBU (1-9-0), RC (2-8-2)

STORY

The Sabercats settled into an organized structure to begin the game, making it difficult for the Red Hawks to find a way through. The breakthrough finally came about midway through the first half, coming off of a long-distance cross-shot that looped into the far corner from the right foot of Cielo Gutierrez.

The Red Hawks didn't stop there, as they continued to pressure the Sabercats in the second half, but met with organized resistance.

But two goals came in a five-minute span in the second half, as the Red Hawk counter-attack and a long-range shot did this trick for the hosts, who secured their second win of the season.
