WATERTOWN, Wis. -- The season starts tomorrow for Maranatha Women's Soccer, and they will waste no time in getting to the important games, keeping their eyes on the prize of the coveted regional title.

After three straight years of disappointment in the NCCAA Regional Tournament, the Sabercats get right down to business, facing off against Faith Baptist Bible College to open the season. As things stand right now, the season opener is also a preview of the 2020 NCCAA North Region Championship, as only Maranatha and Faith are slated to compete for the 2020 North Region title.

With head coach Jeff Pill at the helm, the 2020 squad is eagerly looking forward to what's ahead.

"[The team] is looking eager to start playing games," said Head Coach Jeff Pill. "They've stayed very focused during preseason, which was difficult because of the longer gap between the first day of preseason and the first game. Some key players have put in work over the summer and it shows, so we are very excited to see if our process will pay off."

THE HUB

The Sabercats return some key contributors from the 2019 season, including:

Sarah Bagin (Senior) has held down the back line for the majority of the last two seasons, and she returns to a defensive role for her senior year. Bagin helped the Sabercats to a six-win season in 2019, which included five shutouts. She assumes the role of captain for the first time.

Hannah Evans (Junior) has been sidelined since Alumni Weekend with an injury and will look to hit the ground running when she returns to play. Evans earned North Region Honorable Mention status at the end of the 2019 season and she also dons the armband for the first time.

Amy Montgomery (Junior) earned NCCAA DII All-American status last year and will continue to make her mark for Maranatha. Montgomery is the career-assists leader of all active players (eight career assists) and will look to up that total as a center-midfielder in the 2020 season.

Taylor Moses (Junior) missed out on her freshman year due to injury and worked her way back to full fitness by the end of the 2019 season. Despite the injury struggles, Moses contributed five goals and two assists to the 2019 campaign.

Alexis Sponable (Senior) climbed to the number two spot in the program record books for career goals (47) last year en route to earning NCCAA North Region honors. The former North Region MVP will have both personal and team goals in mind as she approaches her final season in the Blue and Gold. Sponable is also a first-time captain.
