WATERTOWN, Wis. -- Mattie Bumpus led the Sabercats all through September, and the reigning NCCAA Player of the Year has earned the Pizza Ranch Student-Athlete of the Month Award - an in-house award from Maranatha Athletics.
Bumpus, a graduate out of Covington, Indiana, put up 3.06 kills per set, which included a 28-kill performance against Mount Mary at the Lawrence University Invitational. Bumpus eclipsed the 500-career-kills mark during the month, and she proved her versatility by playing back row - picking up 16 digs against Luther on September 10. Both the 28 kills and 16 digs were career-best marks for the grad, who continues to set the pace for Maranatha on the court.
The Sabercats went 9-4 on the month, and Bumpus was at the front of the pack, leading Maranatha with a .258 attack percentage, 1.19 digs per set, and 0.92 blocks per set.
