Men's Basketball 2022-23 Season Preview

WATERTOWN, Wis. -- The Maranatha Men's Basketball Team returns to the floor tomorrow night with the same theme that goes for Maranatha Basketball as a whole this season: they have new faces on the roster, a new coach, and a new perspective for the 2022-23 season.
Coach Rob Fuller steps into the head coaching role alongside assistant coach John Teasdale. Fuller played his college ball at Pillsbury Baptist Bible College, earning NCCAA All-American honors for two seasons (read more about Coach Fuller's journey to Maranatha by going here). Fuller approaches his first season at Maranatha and has already seen major positives from his first preseason in charge.
"The guys have really embraced the team dynamic and how we want to see things go on the court," said Fuller. "They've really embraced the vision, moving away from rote execution of plays and more towards the understanding of how basketball works - making adjustments in the game. The upperclassmen are leading the way and we're getting buy-in from them, and the rest of the guys are really falling in, too."
Coach Fuller is looking to the end of the first semester as the first milestone for the season - his goals for when the team gets to that point revolve around depth and understanding the system.
"We want to get all the guys understanding our sequences, and see guys like Jataz Gray and Brayden Cox get worked into that offense," Fuller said. "I think even though they are freshmen, giving some of that early will help them once February comes - it will help them grow into the college game. And of course, see our main five guys step up where they need to so we can see 8-10 guys settling in and understanding what they bring to the table. I think that could be a huge breaking point going into the second part of the season - everyone embracing their role."
