Mission Statement

The mission of the Athletic Department of Maranatha is to develop leadership skills in the student-athlete through skilled training, godly mentoring, and intercollegiate competition.

Philosophy

As you browse our website, speak with our coaches, or participate in an athletic contest, you will find Maranatha’s intercollegiate athletics to be completely dedicated to the overall development of the student-athlete.

Maranatha has a rich athletic history. Our student-athletes, teams, and coaches have received recognition in our NCAA DIII conference as well as in the NCCAA DII at both the regional and national levels. In addition, many student-athletes are annually recognized for their academic, fine arts, and community achievements.

At Maranatha, we firmly believe that intercollegiate athletics should promote the character development of participants, enhance the integrity of higher education, provide the opportunity to share the gospel of Jesus Christ, and promote service and civility in our local churches and society as a whole. At the heart of these goals is I Peter 3:15: “But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:”

Toward these ends, we strive to adhere to our fundamental core values: fidelity, learning, integrity, charity, leadership, unity, balance, family, and excellence. The priorities of the athletic experience are for the student-athlete to learn how to overcome disappointment as well as how to win or accept recognition and reward with Christian grace and humility. Regardless of the outcome, our first desire to please and honor the Lord Jesus Christ.

Maranatha’s student-athletes, faculty, and staff are always expected to operate with the principles of sportsmanship and ethical conduct in mind. We value our affiliations with the NCAA and NCCAA and subscribe to the rules and principles outlined by these associations in the administration of our athletic programs.

Maranatha is committed to a philosophy of firm institutional control of athletics and to unquestioned academic and financial integrity of the athletic program. The mission statement and core values of the college determine the standards by which the intercollegiate athletic program is conducted.

Every student-athlete, male and female, in all sports, will receive equitable and fair treatment. Maranatha is committed to providing quality coaching, adequate facilities, equipment, and support services for our student-athletes as it encourages participation and supports students in their efforts to reach their potential in both athletic and academic performance. The spiritual atmosphere and challenge for growth, well-being, health, and safety of student-athletes are primary concerns of the athletic department.

The Maranatha athletic department insists upon, applauds, and encourages sportsmanship, ethical conduct, fair play, and respect of its opponents and game officials by coaches, staff, student-athletes, and fans in every phase of intercollegiate competition.

Code of Conduct

It is a privilege to compete in intercollegiate athletics and to represent one’s team and institution in a positive manner. Student-athletes should demonstrate respect on and off the field for teammates, coaches, officials, opponents, and fans. Student-athletes should be mindful that behavior represents not only themselves, but their teammates, fellow student-athletes, coaches, staff, faculty, administration, and, most importantly, the Lord Jesus Christ. Student-athletes should strive to combine their passion and competitiveness during competition with sportsmanship and ethical conduct. Such conduct demonstrates an understanding of the letter of the rules as well as the spirit of the rules.

Sportsmanship Statement

The NCAA, Maranatha Baptist University, and the NCCAA promote good sportsmanship by student-athletes, coaches, and spectators. We request your cooperation by supporting the participants and officials in a positive manner. Profanity, racial or sexist comments, or other intimidating actions directed at officials, student-athletes, coaches, spectators, or team representatives – as well as public intoxication, the possession, or consumption of alcoholic beverages and tobacco products – are grounds for removal from the site of competition and other disciplinary actions.
