THE LEAD

LOVES PARK, Ill. -- The Sabercats are still searching for their first win of the season, as they took a couple of heavy losses today at Rockford University.

The Regents pitchers brought their best work, as they limited Maranatha to 2 hits in the doubleheader while taking home 27-0 and 16-0 wins.

THE STORY

The Regents came on strong in the opener, plating a dozen runs in the second inning off some hot hitting. Rockford eventually had 12 extra-base hits in the game, including homers from Christian Garcia and Ryan Smith. Smith was the player of the game in the 27-0 opener, as he hit for the cycle by going 5-6 with a homer, a triple, 2 doubles, and a single.

The second game saw the Sabercats tighten up their defense, but Rockford still managed to score 7 runs in the fourth inning on their way to the 16-0 win. Rockford's pitching staff was exceptional in the doubleheader, as the 6 men on the mound fanned a combined 35 batters on the day.

David Cripps and Sam Ratledge both registered singles for Maranatha in the doubleheader.
