WATERTOWN, Wis. -- In their final regular-season game, the Sabercats were firing on all cylinders.

Four different players scored as MBU took a 4-1 win over Finlandia at MBU this afternoon.

  • Result: Maranatha 4-1 Finlandia
  • Venue: Maranatha Baptist University
  • Location: Watertown, Wis.
  • Attendance: 86
  • Records: MBU (5-11-0), FINNU (1-12-1)

The scoring started in the first 10 minutes when Kevin Risma bagged his first goal of the season. After Nathan Campbell whipped in a free kick on target, Risma got on the end of the rebound and placed his effort off the upper post and in.

Finlandia equalized just three minutes later with a well-worked corner kick. Junior Espino rose above everyone and hit a looping header to the far post to even the scoreline. Finlandia had the upper hand in shots for the first half, as they fired seven, and MBU's goal was their only shot of the half.

But everything changed in the second half, as the Sabercats began to wear the Lions down with some sharp attacking. Just after coming on as a substitute, Stephen Roer wasted no time in getting on the scoresheet. He fired off a one-time shot from just inside the box that nestled into the far corner off of a Zeke Steuerwald pass. 2-1 MBU.

Capitalizing on the momentum from Roer's goal, the Sabercats were in the mood.

The third came less than eight minutes later, as Bryant Sturgill drove one into the left corner from the top of the box. The creator of the goal was Austin DeAngelo, who beat a couple of Finlandia defenders before touching it to Sturgill for a two-touch finish. Then in the 85th minute, Andrew Ice set up Campbell at the top of the box, and Campbell's effort took a deflection and found the back of the net over the diving Finlandia goalkeeper.

Campbell's goal was one of the final shots in an 18-shot second half for MBU, who had things clicking in their final half of the regular season.

  • Shot count: MBU 19-14 FINNU
  • Campbell: 1 goal, 1 assist
  • Campbell: becomes the second MBU player with 10 or more points this season
  • DeAngelo, Ice: both lead the team with 4 assists each
  • Risma: first goal of the season
  • Series: MBU leads the series, 4-0-0

  • The Lions are members of the NCAA DIII and compete in the ACAA
  • Finlandia has had five losses by one goal this season
  • The Lions were coming off of consecutive 0-3 losses (Olivet, Bethany Lutheran)
