THE LEAD

DUBUQUE, Iowa -- The Sabercats had a fight on their hands against Loras College today, and the IIAC mainstays proved their worth by winning the match in 3 quick sets.

Under relentless pressure from the Duhawks, the Sabercats committed 40 errors in the match - it was a far cry from the Sabercats' most polished performances this season.

THE STORY

The first set was marked by a 9-0 Duhawk run that deflated the Sabercats. Four early kills from Derek Wallis and a couple more from Andrew Carpenter helped the Sabercats stay tight at 15-16, but the Duhawks caught fire at that point. Loras recorded 3 kills and 3 aces during that run to finish what turned out to be a decisive win, 25-15.

That late run set the tone for the rest of the match for the Duhawks, who closed out the match without too much stress from the Sabercats. The tall, hard-hitting Duhawks held the Sabercats to 16 points in each of the final 2 sets to seal the win.

THE NUMBERS

Wallis recorded 6 kills on the day to lead the Sabercats. Devon Steuerwald registered 5 kills of his own.

Wallis, Carpenter, and Brendan Burckart all recorded 2 blocks.

The Duhawks logged 36 kills as a team compared to the Sabercats' 20.

Loras forced 13 serve-receive errors from Maranatha
