Sabercats Come Out on Top of a Tight Battle

ANKENY, Iowa --- The Sabercats emerged from the Faith Classic (hosted by Faith Baptist Bible College) as the top team after they beat Ozark Christian College 60-56 after beating the hosts 53-26 the day prior. Four different players recorded 10 or more points in a balanced effort.

The Basics

  • Result: Sabercats 60-56 Ambassadors
  • Venue: Faith Baptist Bible College
  • Attendance: 70
  • Sabercats: now 2-1, 2-0 in NCCAA play

How it Happened

  • 1st Quarter
    • The two teams stayed even throughout the first quarter, as the lead was no greater than four points for either side.
    • Hanna Glaze continued her noteworthy play by leading the Sabercats with five points, three boards, and four steals.
    • Emilee Hansel was right there with Glaze as the Watertown native recorded five points of her own. Glaze would go on to record 17 points on the day.
    • After 10 minutes of back-and-forth action, the Ambassadors held a one-point lead. (15-16)
  • 2nd Quarter
    • Maranatha grabbed the lead back in the second quarter, thanks in part to the quick hands of Hanna Glaze, who had six steals in the second quarter alone.
    • The Sabercats made the Ambassadors pay the price for turnovers, as nearly half of MBU's points came from turnovers throughout the game.
    • In the second quarter, Glaze, Hanna May, Maisy Alldredge, and Harmony Bailey each logged four points as the Sabercats out-scored the Ambassadors 18-14 to take a three-point lead into the break. (33-30)
  • 3rd Quarter
    • The Sabercats' misfires from the field helped the Ambassadors back into the game, as the lead swung back into Ozark's favor by the end of the third quarter via an 18-13 run for the Ambassadors. In contrast to the Sabercats' 4-15 showing from the field, the Ambassadors nailed almost half of their chances.
    • While the Sabercats struggled, they did manage to knock down their first three shots of the day from beyond the arc, as Alldredge, Glaze, and May all connected from downtown.
    • A lead change during the quarter was characteristic of the game, as neither team lead for more than one quarter at a time. (36-38)
  • 4th Quarter
    • As the game came down to the wire, the Sabercats showed strong defense to limit the Ambassadors to single-digit points on the quarter. Throughout the last 10 minutes, the Sabercats came back by posting 14 points to the Ambassadors' eight to take the game by four points.
    • The Ambassadors held a five-point lead with with six and a half minutes on the clock, but a 12-1 run from the Sabercats over the next two minutes effectively helped to end the game with a flourish for MBU.
    • Hanna Glaze gave the Sabercats their first lead since the end of the third quarter when she knocked down a jumper with just under five minutes on the clock.
    • Down the stretch, Bailey's two-pointer and May's three-pointer extended the Sabercats' lead to six, making it a two-possession game with four minutes left.
    • The Sabercats' defense allowed OCC to make just one shot over the last four minutes, as MBU closed out a hard-fought comeback for their second win in two games at the Faith Classic. (60-56)
