Sabercats Stymied by Raiders in Milwaukee

MILWAUKEE --- The Sabercats had a different game from their big NCCAA win last Saturday, as they tallied just 34 points in a loss to the Raiders of MSOE while being forced to shoot under 25 percent from the field by a staunch Raider defense. Alexis Johnson and Hanna Glaze both contributed 12 points on the night.

The Basics

  • Result: Sabercats 34-60 Raiders
  • Venue: Kern Center; Milwaukee School of Engineering
  • Attendance: 64
  • Sabercats: now 3-5, Raiders: now 5-2

How it Happened

  • 1st Half
  • The Sabercats stayed close with the Raiders in the first quarter, and enjoyed their only lead of the night when Hannah May's three-pointer put the Sabercats ahead 7-5 with four minutes left.
  • The Raiders replied with an 8-3 run to take a 13-9 lead going into the second quarter. From then on, the Raiders would never look back.
  • The second quarter was more lopsided than the first, as the Raiders scored the most points of any quarter to pull away with an 18-8 scoreline through the quarter. Meanwhile, the Sabercats struggled to get momentum with their shooting, as they registered just over 21 percent accuracy from the field.
  • Going into the break, MSOE lead MBU by a score of 31-17.
  • 2nd Half
  • The Sabercats continued to battle despite being down, and the third quarter was a tight one with just a two-point difference between the two teams.
  • Six of the Sabercats' 15 points came from the hands of Alexis Johnson, who played all 10 minutes and knocked down two shots from the field while adding two from the line.
  • Glaze, Harmony Bailey, Hannah May, and Katie Bender joined the scoring act in the third, as the Sabercats put on their best display of the night and shot 35 percent from the field. Still, the well-established Raider lead only increased by two, and the hosts led 48-32 going into the final quarter.
  • Any positive Sabercat momentum was stopped there, as the Raiders held the Sabercats to just two points in the fourth quarter, which included a scoreless stretch over the final eight and a half minutes.
  • Glaze was the only player to score for MBU over the last 10 minutes, as the Raiders pulled away with a dozen points to take the 60-34 win.
  • Karley Johnson and Kelsey Johnson recorded their first start in Sabercat colors and each contributed defensively.
