Sabercats Go Two-for-Two in Illinois

LINCOLN, Ill. --- The Sabercats capped off a low-scoring, two-win weekend with a 50-33 win over NCCAA DI opponents Lincoln Christian University earlier today. Three Sabercats recorded double-figure points on the day as MBU improved to above .500 for the 2016-17 season. After a back-and-forth first half, the Sabercats pulled away in the second half by outscoring the Red Lions 29-13.

The Basics

  • Result: Sabercats 50-33 Red Lions
  • Venue: Lincoln Christian University
  • Attendance: 50
  • Sabercats: now 7-6, Red Lions: now 6-4

How it Happened

  • 1st Half
  • In the first quarter, the Sabercats took control as Hanna Glaze led a 16-point offensive effort. The Twin Falls native chalked seven points in the opening 10 minutes and was assisted by Karley Johnson, who grabbed four points of her own.
  • The Sabercats' defense was resolute, as they allowed just one bucket from the field in the opening quarter.
  • The second quarter saw the momentum swing back in the favor of Lincoln, who outscored Maranatha 15-5 to force a one-point game going into the break. The Sabercats shooting woes were present once again, as the team made just two of their 15 chances from the field while LCU went 7-10.
  • After the opening 20 minutes, the teams were closely matched. MBU had just a one-point lead. (21-20)
  • 2nd Half
  • As they have in recent games, the Sabercats pulled away in the second half to take a commanding lead. Early jumpers from Karley and Kelsey Johnson pushed MBU's lead out to five points, but the Red Lions recovered - somewhat - and only allowed the Sabercats to extend the lead to six by the end of the quarter. (33-27)
  • Enter Maisy Alldredge, who had a convincing 11-point fourth quarter after she came off the bench. Alldredge sparked the biggest scoring quarter for MBU by nailing every shot she looked at - the Delavan, Wis. native knocked down five shots from the field (one from three-point range) to help the Sabercats increase the lead in the final quarter and punish the Red Lions for some untimely turnovers. (50-33)
  • Alldredge's efforts late on helped the Sabercats capture their fourth win in their last five games, as they look to build momentum heading into the second half of the season.

Up Next

  • The Sabercats stay on the road next week and travel to Silver Lake College to face the Lady Lakers at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 17.
