Sabercats Show Promise in AD3I Loss

WATERTOWN, Wis. – In an all-AD3I matchup, the Sabercats showed significant improvement against the Scarlet Hawks of the Illinois Institute of Technology despite falling 0-3. MBU created multiple chances, but the Scarlet Hawks' attack was efficient as they scored three of their four shots on target.

The Basics

  • Result: Sabercats 0-3 Scarlet Hawks
  • Location: Maranatha Baptist University
  • Attendance: 70
  • Sabercats: now 1-6, Scarlet Hawks 3-7-1

How it Happened

  • 15' – The Scarlet Hawks capitalized on a miscue from the Sabercats' back line and finished a well-worked combination play inside the box to chalk the opening goal. (0-1)
  • 51'  IIT picked up where they left off at the beginning of the second half. A second goal from Anida Phetchanpheng - who would eventually net a hat-trick - gave the visitors an insurance goal. (0-2)
  • 75' – With a quarter of an hour remaining, the Scarlet Hawks put the finishing touches on their trifecta. This time the visitors penetrated through the heart of the Sabercat defense and finished calmly off of a breakaway to the lower right-hand corner. (0-3)
  • In the final minutes, the Sabercats showed their resolve to score when Audrey Risma and Amanda Walton both tested the Scarlet Hawks' keeper from outside the box, but both players were denied the consolation goal as the stingy Scarlet Hawk defense maintained the shutout.

From Coach Anderson

"We started well today, pressuring our opponents from the starting whistle. I think we really approached this game well, even though we weren't able to get the result we desired. Still, we are making steps of progress. We look forward to getting another chance to play on Monday!"
