Parents' Day Perfection

WATERTOWN, Wis. -- It was the perfect Parents' Day, as the Sabercats cruised to a 4-0 win over Faith Baptist thanks to a fast Alexis Sponable hat-trick.

Sponable took just 16 minutes to net her sixth career treble as MBU topped FBBC for the second time this season, concluding the regular season on a high note.

  • Result: Maranatha 4-0 Faith
  • Venue: Maranatha Baptist University
  • Location: Watertown, Wis.
  • Attendance: 184
  • Records: MBU (8-6-1), FBBC (5-6-0)

For the second time this season, Sponable's hat-trick came in a seven-minute window. The fun began in the ninth minute when she beat the Faith goalkeeper with a direct free kick from 30 yards away. Sponable added her second with a close finish that deflected off the post and in. That second goal was set up by an assertive run from Amy Montgomery, who hit a low cross from the right side right into the path of the goal-scorer.

Then just three minutes later, Sponable completed the treble. Sponable made her way into the Faith box and took a shot that deflected off the Faith goalkeeper and into the right corner to put the Sabercats up, 3-0.

At halftime, the Sabercats had control of the game, leading the goals category, 3-0, and the shots category, 8-2.

The only goal of the second half came from a courageous Jaclyn Dahl, who tallied her fifth goal of the season. Dahl had her initial attempt blocked but followed up the rebound, sliding in just in front of a hard-charging Eagles defender to earn the fourth and final goal of the game.

Lindsay Hodgs was trusted with the goalkeeping responsibilities, and she made two saves in the shutout.

"It was great to see the girls pull out a solid victory this afternoon in front of a fun and energetic crowd," said Coach Dave Anderson. "Thanks to all the fans that came out to support us in our final home match! Also, a big thank you to all the parents that traveled to Watertown to support us today!"
