MILWAUKEE -- The Sabercats secured their second win of the season and a sweep of Mount Mary today thanks to a career-first brace from Makayla Willette.

Willette scored twice in the first half to cement the win, as the Sabercats worked out some of the frustration from a couple of close losses last week.

OVERVIEW

  • Result: Maranatha 2-0 Mount Mary
  • Venue: MMU Soccer Field, Mount Mary University
  • Location: Milwaukee, Wis.
  • Attendance: -
  • Record: MBU (2-9-1), MMU (0-12-1)

STORY

After the Sabercats peppered the Mount Mary goal early in the game, the breakthrough finally came in the 17th minute. Hannah Evans sent a corner kick into the crowded Mount Mary goalmouth, and after a couple of deflections, Willette headed it home for her second career goal and the opening goal of the game. As it turns out, it would be the game-winner.

The Sabercats kept the pressure piled on the Blue Angels in the first half, out-shooting their hosts 8-1, as Laura Brown only had to make one save through her 72-minute shift between the sticks.

Willette gave the Sabercats their insurance goal just before halftime, after Sarah Moore slipped a pass through to set up Willette at the top of the box. Willette dribbled into the box at the goalkeeper and slotted it into the corner to put the icing on the cake.

It was a celebratory day for the Sabercats, as everyone on the roster had a hand in the two-goal win.
