Sabercats Fall to Tigers in Non-Conference NCCAA Clash

WYOMING, Mich. - Coming off of the defeat of the Crusaders of Great Lakes Christian College, the Sabercats went 1-1 for the weekend in Michigan, as they fell to a powerful Grace Bible squad 2-4. Wira Wama and Brett Cournoyer supplied the goals as the Sabercats fell back to 1-2 in NCCAA play.

The Basics

  • Result: Sabercats 2-4 Tigers
  • Venue: Velting Field
  • Records: Sabercats: now 2-6, Tigers: now 6-4
  • Series: The win was the fourth for the Tigers in the 21-game historic series

How it Happened

  • 4' - It did not take long for the Tigers to break the deadlock, as Jorge Leon made his chance count less than five minutes after the whistle blew for the start of the game (0-1)
  • 20' - The Tigers stated their case with conviction by adding a second goal through the right foot of Daniel Sischo. The second goal was the last of the half as the Tigers held the lead going into the break (0-2)
  • 52' - Tarcisio Silva capitalized on his opportunity from Ryan Wilson to really put Grace into the driver's seat. Just seven minutes into the second act the Tigers had increased their lead to three (0-3)
  • 54' - The Tigers' third goal sparked the Sabercats' attack, as Wama finished a long ball from freshman center back Nathan Campbell to claw one goal back (1-3)
  • 57' - Not to be outdone, Silva answered Wama with his second goal of the game. Grace's fourth goal of the game was the third goal in a five-minute span (1-4)
  • 85' - As a consolation goal, Brett Cournoyer added his third career goal against Grace when the junior collected a Tyler Nelson pass. It would be too little, too late, however, and the Sabercats eventually yielded to their former regional opponents (2-4)

From Coach Pill

"We showed improvement as the game went on, but we lost to a very well-organized and athletic Grace team. I was pleased with how the guys fought hard the whole game, and how they continue to improve their play - especially the younger guys. Wira was his stellar self today and Daniel Kroll played very well in the back to stabilize us after we let in the first two goals."
