Three-Point Start: Sabercats Defeat Rams

WATERTOWN, Wis. – In the first games of the Sabercats' 2016 season, the Women's Soccer team defeated North Central University 3-0 to claim a regional win and a winning start to the season. Bethany Chesky (Reedsburg, Wis.) marked her Blue and Gold debut in style by scoring two goals as the team cruised to the victory.

The matches were played as part of the new NCCAA North Region scheme, and showed promise of a competitive season ahead. The last time the two teams met, the Sabercats came away with a 1-0 victory in pool play of NCCAA Nationals.

How it Happened

  • 27′ – Julie Roer (Marinette, Wis.) put the Sabercats on the board, as the senior made the most of a loose ball inside the box to fire past Monica Herrera for the season-opening goal.
  • 43′ – Freshman Bethany Chesky made the most of her debut by scoring a brace. The first of which came when she collected an Alison Hernandez (Tustin, Calif.) pass and finished with aplomb in the lower left-hand corner.
  • 59′ – Bethany Chesky was on hand again in the second half. After Bethany Wright (Watertown, Wis.), crossed a well-placed ball into the box, Chesky pounced on the opportunity and finished neatly into the left corner once again.
