Test Run Recap

STORY

BOURBANNAIS, Ill. -- Against a competitive field at the Midwest Intercollegiate, the Sabercats finally had a race to learn from.

Jeremy Fopma finished fourth overall with a 15:56 5K to lead the MBU men to an eighth-place finish while Abigail Doak (23:03) and Sierra John (23:30) paced the Women's Team in their own 5K, qualifying individually for NCCAA Nationals at the same time.

-

On the men's side, Trine University and Olivet Nazarene went toe to toe with Trine coming out on top. The Thunder finished with 33 points and placed three runners in the top 10. Fopma's blistering 15:56 5K led the Sabercats past five other teams, including NAIA opponents Lincoln (Ill.) and Calumet (Ind.). Behind Fopma was newcomer Josiah Cochran, who was the first of six MBU runners to cross the line between the 19- and 20-minute marks.

On the women's side, Doak and John were the only two that qualified individually for the NCCAA National Championship. The Women finished with a team time of 2:09:55 - just under five minutes off of the team qualifying time for Nationals.
