Hendricks Tabbed to Lead Cross Country

WATERTOWN, Wis. -- The Maranatha Baptist University Athletic Department is pleased to announce Haly Hendricks as the head coach of Maranatha's cross country programs for the 2023 season.

The Kansas native steps into the head coaching role with considerable experience at the collegiate level. Hendricks ran for three years on the Maranatha Women's Cross Country Team and played a key role in the team's third-place finish at NCCAA Nationals in 2020. Hendricks then stepped into the assistant coach role for the 2021 and 2022 seasons and is primed and ready to take over the responsibilities of head coach.

"I ran under and worked with two great coaches who had different skill sets that [I learned from]," said Hendricks. "Between the two, I think the main takeaway was the importance of building relationships through fun while at the same time creating an atmosphere in which hard work is expected. I'm excited to put into practice knowledge I've gleaned from coaching classes and my own coaches as well as building relationships with the team.

"If the team ends the season more like Christ, closer to each other, and having a greater knowledge of running, I'll consider it a success."

"We are excited to turn the reigns of the Cross-Country programs over to former MBU runner and assistant coach, Haly Hendricks," said Maranatha's Director of Athletics, Rob Thompson. "Haly brings enthusiasm, knowledge of the sport as a student-athlete and assistant coach, and a heart to see the programs continue to improve and impact our campus and the NCCAA. Haly worked under former head coach John Warnke, and it quite capable of leading the program. Though somewhat quiet and reserved by nature, Haly continues to grow as a coach and demonstrates leadership and integrity."

The transition to the head coaching position was in place at the start of the summer.
