Winner Takes All

Winner Takes All

WATERTOWN, Wis. -- Saturday at 12:30, the Sabercats Women's Soccer Team will square off with Great Lakes Christian College in the first and only game of the 2023 NCCAA Midwest Region Tournament. Winner takes all.

The region title. The last laugh in the season series. The ticket to Nationals. The chance to become an NCCAA DII National Champion again for the second time since 2020.

With Alice Lloyd College and Grace Christian University suspending their seasons, the Sabercats and the Crusaders are the only two teams vying for the Midwest Region title. Seedings don't matter; the regular season doesn't matter anymore. Everything rides on the 90 minutes the Sabercats will spend going toe to toe with their foes from Lansing.

INSIDE THE SERIES

The first time the two teams met was in 2020, which was Great Lakes' first season as a program. Maranatha came away with a 5-1 win on a day when Alexis Sponable broke the all-time scoring record for Maranatha.

But since then, Great Lakes has taken the series, winning twice in 2021 before they captured the NCCAA DII national title themselves - in just their second year as an intercollegiate program.

And just last Saturday, the two teams met at Maranatha and Great Lakes took home a commanding 5-0 win.
