THE LEAD

WATERTOWN, Wis. -- The Lincoln Christian University Red Lions have made it clear that they came to play this weekend, taking two wins from two this afternoon at Washington Park.

Maranatha denied Lincoln Christian the shutout in both games, as Kile Arp and Nate Croswell both recorded RBI on the day.

THE OVERVIEW

  • Results: Maranatha 1-7 Lincoln Christian, Maranatha 1-14 Lincoln Christian (5 Innings)
  • Venue: Washington Park
  • Location: Watertown, Wis.
  • Attendance: 49
  • Records: MBU (0-12), LCU (10-13)

THE STORY

Lincoln Christian's bats were pernicious in the first game of the day, as the visitors scored a run in each of the first three innings before carding 3 in the top of the 4th. Maranatha registered 7 hits in the opener and peaked with back-to-back hits in the bottom of the seventh. A leadoff single from Nate Croswell, a double from Drew Smith, and an RBI from Kile Arp put a silver lining on the cloud of the loss as Maranatha ended the first game with some momentum.

-

Collin Smith brought his best game to the mound for Lincoln Christian in the second game of the day, going all 5 innings and allowing just 4 hits. David CrippsShane Paruch, Croswell, and Foster Fredrickson all had singles for Maranatha, but a 7-run showing in the top of the third for Lincoln Christian did irreparable damage.

Caleb Huthmaker appeared in his first game since sustaining an injury on March 26, nearly carding a hit in the second inning.

All in all, the Red Lions showed that their wins earlier this season were no flukes, and the Sabercats will look to reverse Lincoln's opening statement with their first win of the season tomorrow.
