WATERTOWN, Wis. -- The Judson Eagles brought the firepower and came away from Watertown with a 3-0 win over Maranatha tonight.

Phillip Holbrook had a match-high 9 kills and Taylor Dafoe registered 25 assists and 10 digs, but Judson successfully completed their second sweep over Maranatha this season.

OVERVIEW

  • Venue: Maranatha Baptist University
  • Location: Watertown, Wis.
  • Attendance: 91

STORY

Both teams started with high energy, but Judson won a couple of long rallies in the middle of the set and eventually rolled out to a 25-18 win in a high-powered opener.

Maranatha stayed in front in the second set but a 10-1 Judson run turned it around full force in favor of the visitors. Judson posted 31 kills and the first two sets, led by 8 from Joshua Santos.

Maranatha fought their way through the third set but Judson's defense didn't budge. The Eagles' blocking and ubiquitous defending solidified a 25-19 win, as the Sabercats eventually ran out of steam. It took a long time, but Judson finally capped off their second sweep of the season.

On Maranatha's side of the net, Holbrook paced the offense with 9 kills while Taylor Dafoe set up 25 kills. Dafoe led the defensive efforts with 10 digs while Joel Smith had 9 - his second-best mark this season. Regulars Jared Fopma, Steve Wagner, and Peyton Warner were unable to play tonight, but the short-handed Sabercats put up a fight.
