STORY

Maranatha had a decent start to the day, allowing Blackburn only two runs in the first-inning and then gathering three straight outs at the top of the second. While the Sabercats couldn't answer back at the bat in the first two innings, their confidence was not yet shaken.

But that all changed at the top of the first inning after Blackburn scored an impressive 12 runs.

The Sabercats headed back to their dugout feeling defeated, but a pep-talk from Coach Thompson kept them from giving up.

Down 18-0 at the bottom of the fourth, Ashley Nerat and Bethany Searle gave the team some needed energy with back-to-back doubles. The Sabercats were on the board for the first time in four games.

With lifted spirits, the Sabercats headed back to the field (2-18). Margaret McIntyre took to the mound to give Searle's arm a rest. McIntyre did her job, pitching three straight pop-outs to bring her team back in for one more chance at the bat.

Even though the Sabercats couldn't close the large gap, Searle was able to bring in two more RBI's with a single to center field. Finishing 4-18, the Sabercats were excited to start the next game.

At the start of game two, Blackburn kept their tempo and quickly got on the board with six runs. But Maranatha was holding on to the energy from the end of the last game and were able to put up a crooked number at the plate. Nerat and Searle each brought in one RBI apiece with back-to-back singles up the middle, making the score 2-6 at the end of the first.

The next two innings brought in a combined seven runs for the Beavers. Things were starting to go downhill for Maranatha, but Dani Chaney decided to put one more run on the board for her team. She drilled the ball for a solo homerun, her first of the year and fourth in her career.

At the end of the day, Blackburn finished the game after five innings, with a score of 20-3.
