WHITING, Ind. -- The Sabercats were simply outmatched by Calumet-St. Joseph today as they were swept 3-0.

Phillip Holbrook led the charge for Maranatha with eight kills and four digs.

OVERVIEW

  • Final: Maranatha 0-3 Calumet-St. Joseph (10-25, 21-25, 9-25)
  • Venue: Rittenmeyer Center, Calumet College of St. Joseph
  • Location: Whiting, Ind.
  • Attendance: 25
  • Records: Maranatha (4-18), Calumet-St. Joseph (12-4)

STORY

The Crimson Wave started the match with a 14-2 run to start, backing the Sabercats into a corner early on. That first set never really changed after its start, resulting in Calumet winning it 25-10.

The second set, however, was competitive and back-and-forth. Maranatha took the lead at the first point and then held it for much of the set, even leading by a score of 17-13 late. The set was within four points throughout, but Calumet edged Maranatha by scoring seven unanswered points to take the lead back and would hold it to take the second set 25-21.

After losing a tough set, Maranatha just could not regain that momentum from before, as Calumet went on a 12-1 run to finish off the final set 25-9, resulting in a season sweep for the Crimson Wave.
