Different Day; Same Story

THE LEAD

MINNETONKA, Minn. -- The Sabercats wrote a similar story to yesterday, as they were shut out in the first game of the day before allowing 11 runs in the second one at North Central University.

With the losses, Maranatha lets North Central sweep the four-game series, as the Sabercats are still trying to find their groove of playing actual games.

THE OVERVIEW

  • Results: MBU 0-7 NCU, MBU 1-11 NCU
  • Venue: Veterans Memorial Field
  • Location: Minnetonka, Minn.
  • Records: MBU (0-4), NCU (4-7)

THE STORY

The Sabercats had a hard time figuring out Justin Torres, who pitched six scoreless innings for the Rams. Ryan Hempel and Caleb Westerlund managed to tag singles, but the two connections were the only times the Sabercats hit their way to first base.

The Rams did almost all of their damage in the bottom of the first inning, as three consecutive triples were a part of a six-run showing for NCU. The Rams went on to add one more in the fifth, but it was only to cushion the lead even more. With a 7-0 win in the opening game, the Rams were poised to sweep the series

--

North Central took advantage of some Sabercat miscues in the second game of the day, as just three of the 11 Rams runs were earned. Hempel extended his hitting streak to three games while Jonah Bailey and Alex Causey provided the other two hits - all of them singles.

With the first four games out of the way, the Sabercats will look to tighten up their loose ends for when they host North Central in their own four-game homestand next weekend.
