SCHEDULEROSTER

WATERTOWN, Wis. -- After practicing for nearly two months and taking a mission trip to the Dominican Republic, Coach Gary Garrison and the Sabercats will begin their season tonight with a 6:30 p.m. doubleheader at North Central University. It's go time.

Last season was both a grind and a disappointment, as the Sabercats completed a winless season after playing just six times on the originally scheduled date. With the weather-induced schedule changes, the Sabercats played just one doubleheader on their home field and they had a 20-day stretch in which they only played twice.

So if improvement comes with repetition, last season was brutal.

With that behind them, a young Sabercats team looks forward to gaining a different experience in the 2019 season. With five new faces, MBU will be fielding a different look from last year, and Garrison is excited for the new boys to contribute.

KEY QUOTES

"I’m excited about the incoming freshmen," Garrison said. "The team will be young but if we can keep these core guys together over the next few years, I think we will be strong. Alex Causey, Caleb Westerlund, Shane Paruch, Jonah Bailey, Kyle Cummins all figure to play key roles this year.

"The team has a great spirit and can’t wait to get started. [We are] looking to improve on last season’s down year…mainly due to the weather which wreaked havoc on our 2018 schedule."

KEY TALKING POINTS

  • Coach Gary Garrison returns for his 13th season at the helm. Garrison led the Sabercats to a program-record-tying nine wins in 2016 and nearly hit that mark again in the 2017 season. Returning with Garrison on the coaching staff will be Joel Borchardt and Chad Yanzito.
  • The Sabercats will field eight student-athletes who are playing their first season with the Maranatha Baseball Program.
  • New faces outweigh the veterans, as seven returners will don MBU colors this season.
  • MBU will have a 10-game homestand (five doubleheaders) April 15-23.

KEY HOME GAMES

  • North Central University / 4.5-6
  • Lincoln Christian University / 4.19-20
  • 10-game homestand / 4.15-23
