Anderson Named Head Women's Soccer Coach

WATERTOWN, Wis. – Maranatha Baptist University graduate and three-year Men's Soccer player David Anderson has been named head coach for the Sabercat Women's Soccer Team for the 2016 season. Anderson will take over for former head coach Peter Huber, who stepped in to be in charge of the Sabercats last season when they held a 13-3-2 record and finished runners-up at the NCCAA DII National Championship.

Anderson, who hails from Detroit, Michigan, is no stranger to the Sabercats' soccer programs, as the three-year player has also been an assistant coach for the Men's Team since 2013.

"I think my time with the men's program under Coach Jeff Pill has grown my skills as a coach, challenged my perspective on leadership, and prepared me for this moment in my soccer journey," stated Anderson. "Personally and professionally it will be a great challenge for me – a challenge I fully embrace."

Anderson takes the reigns of a program that holds a 58-21-3 record in the NCCAA since the team's inception in 1997.

"Thanks to my predecessors," said Anderson, "we are a nationally-recognized program in Christian college athletics. I am thrilled to come into this role with momentum and drive from within our team to continue this on-field success."

Anderson aims to build on the already-solid foundation of the team and its culture both on and off the field. "Our girls demonstrate a genuine desire to meet the needs not only of fellow players, but of girls all across the campus. I want to encourage and enable the growth of this reality in all the players," Anderson said.

In speaking of performance on the field, Anderson is encouraged at what he has seen from the team to this point. "We are organized in our defending and can build out of the back; so there is definitely a tactical foundation which we will continue to build upon. The soccer culture on our campus continues to blossom, so I am motivated to continue and expand this tradition of excellence."
