WATERTOWN, Wis. - On a pleasant afternoon in Watertown, the visiting Regents of Rockford University came out flying against the Sabercats, posting three touchdowns in the opening quarter. In a game of two different halves, the Sabercats could not overcome the fast start by the visiting Regents of Rockford University, eventually falling 6-34 after the defense stood strong in the second half.
The Basics
- Result: Sabercats 6-34 Regents
- Location: Maranatha Baptist University
- Attendance: 412
- Records: Sabercats now 1-1, Regents now 1-1
How it Happened
- 1st Quarter
- The visitors got on the board twice in the opening seven minutes after the Sabercats were unable to generate offensive momentum. Both touchdowns came through the air as a pinpoint Andrew Perez put the ball where the Sabercats were not (0-14)
- As the Sabercats were stymied by the Regent defense, Rockford scored once more as the quick-footed Chance Manning snuck up the middle to end the scoring in a dominant first quarter (0-21)
- 2nd Quarter
- The fourth score came when Mar Sean Vercher hauled in his second TD reception of the day from Perez. This time, it was a two-yard completion (0-27)
- The Sabercat defense was impenetrable in the second half, and the key plays on the day were a sack by Wyatt Pankey and a forced fumble and recovery by Ben Schulz, who notched 15 tackles on the day
- 4th Quarter
-
- The Sabercats finally got on the board in the fourth quarter. After Jonah Bueltel connected a deep pass to Clayton Morrison to start the drive, Savon Williams weaved into the endzone for a two-yard run and the Sabercats' only points of the contest
Notes
- Schulz's 15-tackle showing moves the Senior to 228 - the fifth-highest tally in Sabercat Football history, and marks his ninth-consecutive game in which he recorded double-digit tackles (dating back to 9/12/15 vs Lawrence)
- Williams' touchdown was his first in Blue and Gold
