STORY

Maranatha seemed to defeat themselves in yesterday's doubleheader against Trinity Int'l after multiple fielding errors led to massive innings for the Trojans.

Dani Chaney was able to get into scoring position right away after hitting a triple in the top of the first inning. But Maranatha went down looking, and Chaney was left stranded on base. While the Sabercats only gave up four hits during their first defensive attempt, that was all the Trojans needed to get things going. They headed back to the duggout with three runs after a two RBI in the park homerun by Heather Anderson (1B) and a RBI double from Izabella Hernandez (SS).

The second inning was very similar to the first. Bethany Searle and Erin Baggett were both left stranded in scoring position and the Trojan went on to bring three more runners home. However, the real dagger was set after Trinity advanced their lead to 12-0 with a six running inning at the bottom of the third. Maranatha had no answers and the game was called after five innings with a score of 14-0.

Maranatha's hopes of starting fresh in game two were quickly depleted after the first innings. Countless errors in the field from the Sabercats awarded the Trojans 13 early runs.

The Sabercats tried to keep their heads high as they started the second inning but Trinity rubbed some dirt on the wound by scoring five more runs and giving them a lead of 18-0, which stayed the score through the rest of the game.

Maranatha will be looking to put these games behind them and look ahead to Friday for another doubleheader opportunity where they will face Mount Mary for the first time this season.
