Thompson Earns NCCAA Award

Thompson Earns NCCAA Award

July 6, 2023 | by Taylor Pill

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- The National Christian College Athletic Association announced their year-end awards for the 2022-23 season, and the NCCAA has given a Meritorious Service Awards to Maranatha Director of Athletics, Rob Thompson, for the second time in three years.

The Meritorious Service Award recognizes individuals who dedicate special service to the NCCAA. Their efforts must have made a significant contribution to the advancement of the association, and the recipients are recognized by participating institutions as a whole. This award went to 11 different recipients, as was announced at this year's NCCAA Convention.

The NCCAA recognized Thompson for concluding his service as North Region Coordinator (2018-23) and for his three-year term as NCCAA President.

Besides serving as NCCAA President (since summer 2020), Thompson served as the North Region Coordinator and was in charge of policy, postseason tournaments and logistics, and a substantial list of administrative duties for the 11-institution NCCAA North Region.

Those two duties were substantial, and they were just two more to add to a litany of roles for Thompson, whose work ethic is one of his defining traits.

"Coach Thompson has dedicated his entire life to serving the Lord and ministering to others," said Maranatha CEO, Dr. Matthew Davis. "He is a man that prefers to let his actions do the talking most of the time. And those actions demonstrate his commitment to service every day through the venue of athletics. No job is too big or too small – whatever needs to be done, Coach T gets it done. His example of servant leadership for our students and staff is priceless. This award is well-deserved, and I am proud to call him my friend."
