THE LEAD

ANKENY, Iowa -- A fast start, better shooting, and tidier possession set the tone for the Sabercats in a commanding win at Faith Baptist this afternoon.

Alexis Bueltel racked up 21 points to lead MBU to a 77-49 win. That was the senior's fifth career game with 20 or more points. Kelsey Johnson joined her sister with 19 points - just 1 shy of her career-best.

THE STORY

The rust from Thursday night seemed to disappear entirely for MBU, who began the game with a commanding 20-0 run. Nine points from Maisy Alldredge and another 5 from Katie Bender fueled the fast start.

Before the Eagles could stop the damage in the first quarter, the Sabercats had put up 24 points on the board to the Eagles' 10.

The Sabercats' shooting cooled off a little bit in the second quarter, as they only sunk 4 of 17 from the field. Both teams scored just 9 points in the low-scoring quarter, and the Sabercats held a 33-19 lead going into the locker room.

Bueltel and Alldredge had 9 points each going into halftime. Lyndi Shepard recorded 16 of the first-half points for the Eagles.

The second half began like the first. MBU posted a 13-4 run to bolster the lead and held the third-quarter advantage to the tune of 21-12. Five different MBU players contributed to the 13-point run, as the Sabercats' attack once again proved to be balanced and flowing.

With Faith's point total doubled, the Sabercats cruised to an easy win with 23 more points in the final quarter. Johnson led MBU with 14 second-half points. Bueltel registered 11 in the final 2 quarters combined.

THE NUMBERS

Bueltel (21), Johnson (19), and Alldredge (16) led the scoring for MBU.

Bueltel added 7 rebounds while Kelsey Johnson contributed 8 boards and 4 assists.

MBU held the advantage in rebounds, as they accumulated 47 boards to the Eagles' 32.

MBU shot 40.5 percent from the field for the game.

Maranatha continues its perfect record in Women's Basketball against Faith. This is the seventh win for MBU since the two teams first met in 1988.

Shepard led all scorers with 25 points.
