THE LEAD

DUBUQUE, Iowa -- On Emmaus's home floor, Kelsey Johnson and the Sabercats paid the Eagles back for that home loss earlier this week.

Johnson kept her hot streak going with back-to-back 20-point games, as she notched 21 tonight to give MBU a 13-point win. The win sees MBU move to 3-1 in NCCAA North Region play.

THE STORY

Johnson wasted no time in getting down to business, as she notched a dozen points in the first quarter alone to lead the Sabercats out to a 20-7 lead. In doing so, the Sabercats kept the ball in their hands as much as possible by out-rebounding the Eagles 17-6 in the opening act.

The Sabercats seemed to have learned their lesson from Tuesday night, as they limited the Eagles to a 12.5 percent shooting performance from the field.

The second quarter saw a swing back in favor of Emmaus, as the Eagles settled into their rhythm to score 17 points. On the other end of the floor, MBU could only get 7 points to fall but they maintained their lead going into halftime - the score was 31-24 in favor of MBU.

From that point on it was a relatively easy win for MBU. The only scare came with 9 minutes left, when a 3-pointer from Kristen Morry brought the Eagles to within 3. Over the following 7 minutes, however, Katie Bender and Alexis Bueltel combined for 15 points to restore the breathing room once and for all.

THE NUMBERS

Johnson recorded her third game with 20-plus points and her sixth double-double on the season.

Karley Johnson and Bueltel both recorded 12 points.

The Sabercats recorded a season-best 23 offensive boards on the night.

Morry led the Eagles with 16 points.

The Sabercats now hold a 19-7 advantage in the all-time series.

THE SOUND BITE

"The girls did a great job tonight and basically turned the table on Emmaus," said Assistant Coach Rob Thompson after the game. "We took the game to them tonight, got to the line 23 times, and we played really solid defense. Our seniors were challenged to make a difference in the game, and they did. It was overall just a really good game and the girls did a great job tonight."
