STORY

After a brutal weekend series, the Sabercats brought much better defense in game one, committing only one error that did not lead to a run. The offense also showed up as they tallied 11 hits over the course of the game, but none of those hits came with a man in scoring position, leading to Maranatha being shutout once again.

Daniel Piranian made his first career start after three relief appearances in which he tallied 12 strikeouts. He immediately had to learn to adjust and battle as he walked the first two batters of the game, both of which ended up scoring. But he got out of the inning with minimal damage. Piranian continued to pitch well and battle out of tough spots, but Northland jumped on a couple of mistakes he made in the fourth to the tune of an RBI double followed by a two-run homer. Despite that, the rookie fought on and completed all seven innings, saving the arms in the pen for another game. With the offense not able to scratch across a run, Northland took the game 7-0, a much closer game than the final score showed.

Jonah Bailey started game two and had to fight through the first couple of innings, issuing a leadoff walk that scored in the first and had to battle through four defensive errors in the second. The defense struggled in game two with a more inexperienced lineup playing, leading to seven errors and not much help behind the pitcher, but Bailey struck out seven batters to get the outs that mattered.

Meanwhile, the offense struggled far worse than in game one, scoring two runs only in the sixth inning. With Drew Smith at second and Ty Smith at first, Micah Bailey drilled a single up the middle to score the Sabercats' first run of the day. Then, Kyle Cummins ripped a single into left to score another run, breaking himself out of a slump. Despite the late effort, the offense only managed four hits and the gloves let the team down in the 12-2 loss in game two.
