BELOIT, Wis. -- A second-half Bucaneer barrage was unstoppable today, as the Sabercats took a tough 1-7 loss on a muggy afternoon at Beloit.

Braeden Hansel scored the only goal of the game for the Sabercats in the 83rd minute, but it was nothing more than a consolation to a disappointing afternoon.

OVERVIEW

  • Result: Maranatha 1-7 Beloit
  • Venue: Strong Complex Soccer Field, Beloit College
  • Location: Beloit, Wis.
  • Attendance: 32
  • Record: MBU (1-3-0), BC (1-4-0)

STORY

The Bucs struck first after a back-and-forth start to the game. The goal came when the ball bounced free in the Sabercats' penalty area and was touched in by Prabaldeep Khare. Beloit added a second just after 32 minutes with a chipped shot from outside the box, and going into halftime, the Bucaneers had all the chances, all the goals, and all the momentum.

Once Beloit got going there was no going back, as the Bucs put five unanswered goals past the Sabercats through the first 35 minutes of the second half. But the half didn't end without some bright spots: Ian Balyo provided a spark with a spectacular diving save on a penalty kick, and just seven minutes from the end of the game, Aaron Jones' through ball set up Hansel for a shot, and the senior made no mistake with a well-struck left-footed effort that curled into the far corner.

All in all, it was mostly a day to forget for the Sabercats, who gave Beloit their first win of the season.
