THE LEAD

WATERTOWN, Wis. -- The Loras College Duhawks bolstered their attack tonight, logging 48 kills to beat the Sabercats for the second time in a 1-week span.

Even though they came up short in the match, the Sabercats posted 20 points in the first set, which is their best mark in the 2-match series with Loras this season.

THE STORY

Right from the start, the Sabercats showed that they weren't going to take this match lying down. Despite being swept by Loras a couple of weeks ago, the Sabercats came out in the first set with determination.

The quick-hitting Duhawks stayed just in front of the Sabercats in the early goings despite some early aggressive play at the net from MBU. The Sabercats registered just a couple of kills early on, but they forced errors from Loras to keep the set close.

A couple of blocks from Andrew Carpenter helped the Sabercats to an 18-19 deficit, but after a couple of timeouts, Loras closed out the set to the tune of 25-20.

The second set was a different story for the Sabercats, as they came out flat, yielding to a relentless Duhawk attack. Loras quickly posted a 10-1 run to force Coach Torey Rosen to call a timeout. The breather did its work, as the Sabercats came back to trail at 16-20 courtesy of 4 kills from Derek Wallis. As the set played out, however, that was as close as MBU would come. Late on, Loras took the set 25-18.

With the end goal in sight, Loras came out in the third set with renewed motivation. The Sabercats did what they could to stay close, but Loras' momentum proved to be unstoppable. The visitors ran out to a 25-13 win in the third and final set to complete the season sweep of MBU.

THE NUMBERS

Wallis once again recorded a half-dozen kills on the day to lead the Sabercats.

As a team, the Sabercats were altogether cleaner, as they recorded just 25 errors compared to 39 from Loras.

The Duhawks held a 48-14 advantage in kills.

Loras' Jake Chudzik let everyone with 10 kills.
