Maranatha had a fight on their hands against the Greenville University Panthers (NCCAA, NCAA DIII), as the 5-1 rotation from the men in orange was a tough one to deal with. Greenville had three of their best hitters climb above the .500 attack-percentage mark while Kyle Ward registered 15 kills off of .375 hitting.
On the MBU side of the net, the Sabercats were limited to a .032 percentage, as they were sent scrambling under the onslaught of Panther attacks. Derek Wallis led Maranatha with five kills while Isaac McKee and Joel Smith logged four kills apiece. Greenville's experience and precision was a clear difference-maker in the end, as GU limited MBU to scoring 15 or 16 points in each set.

The Sabercats threatened Trine University (NCAA DIII) in the second match of the day, but the hosts defended their home floor after suffering a narrow defeat to Greenville earlier on. Wallis and McKee kept the Sabercats ahead in the early stages of the first set, as things stayed tight throughout the frame. But a mid-set run from the Thunder was legitimized by two decisive kills to wrap up the set for the hosts.
After the thrilling opener, the Thunder took control of the second set and never looked back, taking a 25-16 win before finishing the match in the next set. It wasn't easy for TU, as the Sabercats once again played with determination through the final set to come within three points by the end of it.
Wallis slammed down 12 kills, which ties for his second-best mark this season. Taylor Dafoe recorded 20 assists in the Trine match, marking the fourth time this season that he has reached 20 or more dimes in a single match.
- Wallis: 17 total kills and 13 digs
- Dafoe: 35 total assists
- Rory Massey: 3 solo blocks, 4 blocks in Trine match
