Shooting Stars

LEAD

WATERTOWN, Wis. -- Maranatha struggled to execute on both ends of the court in last night's match against Dominican. The Stars continued to pound the ball into the paint, earning layup after layup while the Sabercats couldn't seem to make anything go in. They ended up falling to their opponents 37-70.

Katelyn Brown led her team in points for the fifth game in a row, ending with 17 points on the night.

OVERVIEW

  • Result: Maranatha 37-70 Dominican
  • Venue: MBU Gymnasium - Maranatha Baptist University
  • Location: Watertown, Wis.
  • Attendance: 100
  • Records: MBU (2-3), DU (1-6)

STORY

The Sabercats handed Dominican their first win of the season after having another poor night from the field. Going 12-55 from mid/short range and 2-7 from the three-point line, Maranatha finished with an overall 19.4 shooting percentage. Katelyn Brown was the only one to finish with over ten points on the night (17). The next leading scorer after Brown was Lindsay Mikkelson who contributed eight to the team's 37-point total.

Even though Dominican has had their own fair share of difficulties from the field this season, they were able to take advantage of the height advantage they had over Maranatha. Every time they got the ball into the post, the Stars made it look easy as they backed down the Sabercats and finished at the hoop.

Maranatha went into the locker room at halftime only trailing by 10. But Dominican struck early in the second half and the Sabercats couldn't stop the bleeding. In the entire third quarter, they were only able to put up five points, three of which came from free throws.

Moving forward, Maranatha will be looking for answers to help solve this shooting slump they have been in before they leave this weekend to face two very tough opponents in Minnesota.
