QUICK HITS

  • Result: MBU 0-10 Wisconsin Lutheran
  • Venue: Neumann Family Field, Wisconsin Lutheran College
  • Attendance: 29
  • Record: Maranatha is now 0-10

THE LEAD

MILWAUKEE -- The Wisconsin Lutheran College Warriors posted 16 hits in a 10-run win over MBU in Milwaukee, making a chilly April afternoon seem that much colder. MBU falls to 0-10 with the 0-10 loss.

Maranatha never advanced a runner to third base on the day, as the Warrior's pitching staff brought their A Game by limiting the Sabercats to just 4 hits at Neumann Family Field.

THE STORY

The 2 teams combined for just 2 runs through the first 4 frames. Wisconsin Lutheran was threatening, however, as they stranded 5 runners through the opening 3 innings. The pressure paid off for the Warriors in the fifth inning when they tacked on another 2 runs off of 3 hits.

The Sabercats' headaches were caused by Jake Constien, who tossed his first win of the season for Wisconsin Lutheran. The rookie fanned 8 MBU batters through 7 innings and kept the Sabercats guessing throughout his performance, allowing just 2 hits on the day.

After the Warriors chalked up another 3 runs in the seventh, Dillon Smith and Jordan Garrison both singled in the eighth to try to get something going for MBU, but the Warriors kept the Sabercats off the board and ended the game 1 inning early when they plated 3 more men in the bottom of the inning.

THE STATS

Clint Matheis and Tim Kinzler were the only other Sabercats to record hits on the day.

Matheis, Kinzler, and Cody Kuhl turned a double play in the bottom of the fourth. That was the Sabercats' 7th double play in the last 6 games.

Garrison bumps his season hits total up to 11, which is the second-best mark on the team.

THE CALENDAR

This weekend's doubleheaders with Martin Luther College have been canceled, so the next game for the Sabercats will be Monday at 6 p.m. against Dominican University at Boomers Stadium in Schaumburg, Ill. Catch the details at mbusabercats.com/composite.
