Holbrook Sets Record, Breaks into Top 10 to Lead Sabercats at Brissman-Lundeen

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - In sweltering conditions, the Sabercats continued their early-season endeavors at the Brissman-Lundeen Invitational, as the Men's Team finished 25th out of 31 while the Women's Team placed 15th of 26 at Saukie Golf Course. This was the first time in recent history that the two squads have made the trip to Rock Island.

Highlights - Women

  • In the Women's 6K that started the days events, Katie Holbrook jumped out to the front of the pack early and held on to a 10th-place finish in the field of 226 runners. Holbrook finished with a time of 24:20.7, which was a 6:32/mile pace.
  • With the 6K time, Holbrook not only set a personal record, but broke the school record for the Women's 6K.
  • Kimberly Richerson was not far behind Holbrook, as the Illinois native finished 67th with a 26:29.7 time - an improvement on her time from the Ken Weidt classic on September 10th.
  • With her time, Richerson set a personal record and registered the eighth-fastest time in MBU history.
  • Sarah Vander Pluym took the third spot for MBU, as Holbrook's sister cashed in at the 81st spot with a 26:51.1 time.

Highlights - Men

  • In a field of more than 300 strong, Rankin nearly broke the top 100 as he finished with a time of 31:02.4 - five seconds better than his showing two weeks ago at the Ken Weidt Classic.
  • Newcomer Robert Kile was not far behind Rankin, as the Pennsylvania native finished 135th with a debut time of 31:43.4 (6:23/mile). Kile qualified for NCCAA Nationals with his time.

Up Next

  • The Sabercats will travel to the Milwaukee area next Saturday to compete in the Warrior Invitational. The Men will run their 8K at 11:00 AM with the Women following with 12 PM 6K.
  • The meet will be held at Greenfield Park in West Allis, Wisconsin.
