NCCAA Regional Preview

The Sabercats Soccer and Volleyball Teams will be hitting the road this weekend to begin their NCCAA postseason play at the NCCAA North Regional Tournaments. After the mixed results of the 2015 postseason, each team will be either looking to build on some positive momentum or achieve the outcome they were seeking during last year's championship month.

Last year, the Sabercats' postseason ended sooner than expected when they fell 2-1 to the Tigers of Grace Bible College on their home field in the NCCAA (Midwest) Regional Semifinal. Despite controlling the game and significantly out-shooting the Tigers, the Sabercats' quest for back-to-back National Championships was prematurely halted. This season, the Sabercats will look to be the inaugural North Region Champions and punch their ticket to NCCAA Nationals in mid-November.

The Sabercats hold a 2-2 record against their opponents from the North Region. After falling 0-3 to North Central and 0-1 to Moody Bible at home, the Sabercats rallied to defeat Faith Baptist 4-1 before notching a 3-1 win over Providence in their final home game of the season.

The Sabercats will play in the quarterfinals against Providence on Thursday at 3:00 PM. With a win, MBU will advance to play North Central on Friday morning in the semifinal and a chance to advance to the Championship Match on Saturday at 3:00 PM.

Last year, the Sabercats were faced with only a home-and-away aggregate playoff with Grace Bible College, which MBU won comfortably by a combined score of 7-1. This year, the Sabercats have earned the top seed in a three-team tournament, and will await the winner of the match between Providence and Faith, which will determine who faces the Sabercats in the title match for the North Region.

MBU completed their regular-season campaign without conceding a single goal in regional play, and will look to continue that trend when it matters most. The Sabercats defeated the non-participating North Central University 3-0 before defeating Faith 8-0 and Providence 2-0.

The Sabercats hold the #1 seed, therefore qualifying for the championship match on Saturday at noon against the winner of the Faith/Providence semifinal.

The Sabercats won their old Midwest Region title five out of the last six years, and are the favorites to win the inaugural North Region title. To begin play, the Sabercats will await the winner of the Faith Baptist/Trinity Bible match to determine their semifinal opponents.

The winner of the semifinal on Friday night will advance to face the winner of Providence/Moody in the championship matchup.

The Sabercats have faced only one regional opponent this year, as they defeated Moody 3-0 at home on the last day of September.

Exact times of the contest - as well as coverage of the event - will be forthcoming.
