Holbrook, Sabercats' Pack Running Shine at Warrior Invitational

WEST ALLIS, Wis. - Both Cross Country teams improved their placements at the Warrior Invitational hosted by Wisconsin Lutheran College, as they battled muddy, wet conditions at the slow Greenfield Park course. Katie Holbrook finished in the top 10 for the second week in a row, and the Men's squad saw their top five runners finish within a 30 second span.

The Basics

  • Placement: Women - 9th of 16 | Men - 10th of 19 
  • Venue: Greenfield Park, West Allis, Wis.
  • Conditions: Wet, muddy
  • Top Runners: Katie Holbrook (10th) | Josh Kruit (64th)

Highlights - Women

  • The women started the day with a 6K, and it was the same story as the week prior as Katie Holbrook maintained her spot near the fron of the pack to boast her second consecutive top-10 finish. Holbrook ran her 6K through difficult conditions in 25:40.73, which amounted to a 6:53.3 pace.
  • Kimberly Richerson was next across the line for the Sabercats also saw her pace slacken slightly in the muddy conditions, as she finished in 63rd place with a time of 28:36.52. 
  • With their 9th-place finish, the Women's squad was 23 points and one place behind MSOE, who the Sabercats will compete against at the upcoming Wisconsin Private College Championships.

Highlights - Men

  • The Sabercats' pack running stole the show on the Men's side of things, as the squad stayed together throughout the Men's 8K to finishd five runners just 26 seconds apart.
  • Josh Kruit led the way, as the Hartford, Wis. native finished 64th in the field of 179 runners with a time 31:16.52, which was roughly 45 seconds faster than his time at the Brissman-Lundeen Invitational last week.
  • Cameron Rankin was .4 seconds behind Kruit. Rankin finished 66th and was followed by Kurt Wagner, Rory Massey, and Robert Kile in quick succession.

Up Next

  • Both squads return to the Milwaukee area next Saturday to compete in the Lucion Rosa Invitational hosted by UW-Parkside. The Men will run their 8K at 10:00 AM with the Women following with an 11:00 AM 6K.
  • The meet will be held at Wayne E. Dannehl National Cross Country Course in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
