THE STORY

Mount Mary came on strong in the opener, blasting 9 runs in the bottom of the first inning. Maranatha's best answer came in the top of the fourth, when they scored 3 runs off an Erin Yancey double and an Alexis Sponable single. Earlier in the game, Taylor Warner logged her first career hit - a double to center field that led to Liberty Bailey scoring the Sabercats' first run of the game.

But with the terminal damage already done, the Blue Angels were on the home stretch, as they finished an emphatic opening statement to the four-game weekend series.

The second game of the day brought another strong start for Mount Mary, who plated multiple runs in each of their first four at-bats to seal the game. The Sabercats had a hard time with the combined pitching of Lauren Nylund and Brianna Lupa, who combined for 9 strikeouts in the game. Thome was the only one with multiple hits for Maranatha, going 2-3 with a double and an RBI.

Overall, Mount Mary had shown marked improvement at the plate, and they have positioned themselves as a formidable opponent for the Sabercats to conclude their season with tomorrow.

THE SOUND BITE

"We had some good things happen today," said Head Coach Rob Thompson after the game. "Mount Mary hit the ball hard and placed it well. Taylor Warner did great, especially in the first game as the DP. We had some really good hits and the girls kept fighting all the way to the end. Very proud of how they handled themselves tonight in the situations that we had. We had some really nice plays defensively, and the best thing is that we had the opportunity to play and get games."
