Sabercat Trio Tabbed Players of the Week

WATERTOWN, Wis. - Three Sabercat standouts were given Player of the Week status after their exploits during the week of August 29-September 3. Two of the three were awarded a "double" by receiving such honors in both of the Sabercats' conference affiliations.

Alison Renz (Lake Mills, Wis.) was named as an NCCAA Player of the Week for Division II Volleyball, and was later named Player of the Week for the Association of Division III Independents (AD3I).

During a four-Match triumph at the Spikefest Tournament hosted by Faith Baptist Bible College, the Sabercats defended their Spikefest Title, thanks in part to Renz, who contributed 62 kills on the weekend to lead the Sabercats. Renz was subsequently named to the All-Tournament Team and as Tournament MVP. As a bonus, Renz surpassed the 1,000 career kills mark last night to put the exclamation point on a productive week for the Lake Mills Senior.

Ben Schulz (Lake Mills, Wis.) earned NCCAA Defensive Player of the Week honors after he led a dedicated Sabercat defense to a 20-7 win over Martin Luther College (UMAC). The All-American racked up 13 tackles and pitched in 1.5 sacks and 1.5 tackles for loss on the day as the Sabercats opened their season with a road win.

Wira Wama (Papua New Guinea) joined Renz by earning double honors. Wama was the undisputed man of the match against the Red Hawks of Ripon College, as the Sabercats cruised to a 5-1 win on the road. Wama netted a hat-trick and added two assists on the day, making him directly involved with every goal scored. On the week, Wama notched seven shots, six of which were on frame.
