2016 Sabercats Football Schedule Released

WATERTOWN, Wis. – The 2016 schedule for the Sabercats Football team has been released, showing that the Sabercats will face old faces, returning opponents from last season, and a couple of new schools in the 2016 season.

Five home games and five away games are on the docket as the Sabercats hope to build off of the building year of 2015.

Home Schedule

  • 9/10 vs Rockford
    • The two teams will clash once more after not playing against each other for two seasons. Before their last meeting in 2013, the teams had met every year since 2000 – one year after the Sabercats joined the NCAA DIII. The Regents hold the 10-4 series advantage.
  • 9/24 vs Concordia-Chicago
    • Last year's game against the Cougars (Recap) proved to be a 'stepping stone' for success later in the season for the Sabercats. The Cougars hold the 9-6 advantage since the first meeting of the two sides in 1976.
  • 10/29 vs Trinity Bible (N.D.)
    • In a wild, 98-point thriller in North Dakota last year, the Sabercats took home the win over NCCAA rivals Trinity Bible (Recap). This year, the teams will face off in a unique home-away series. The Sabercats' nine wins bests the Lions' six in the series.
  • 11/5 vs Alfred State (N.Y.)
    • After traveling to the Empire State last year, it is the Pioneers' turn to make the trip. Last year's battle (Recap) was the first between the two teams. The Sabercats will look to reverse the 18-34 scoreline of last year in the 2016 edition of the matchup.
  • 11/12 vs Minnesota-Morris
    • The Sabercats and the Cougars faced off twice in 2007, which accounts for half of the games in the series all-time. The Sabercats will be eager to post their first win over the Cougars.

The Sabercats will face new opponents in Morthland College (West Franklin, Ill.) and Robert Morris-Peoria (Peoria, Ill.) on the first two Saturdays in October, and will conclude their away games in Hancock, Michigan against the Lions of Finlandia University. The Lions narrowly defeated the Sabercats on two occasions last year, making the 2016 game an eagerly-anticipated one.
