THE LEAD

PLYMOUTH, Minn. -- The Sabercats faced similar results from yesterday in the second day of the NCU Dome Tournament, dropping 3 decisions on the day to North Central, Finlandia, and UM-Morris.

Eight different Maranatha players recorded hits. Joylynn Molencupp recorded 2 hits and a double on the day.

THE STORY

North Central University proved to be more difficult to beat than they were yesterday, as they scored a dozen runs on MBU. Ali Cornelius tossed all 5 innings for NCU and recorded 7 strikeouts while limiting the Sabercats to just 1 run. The Sabercats stranded 6 runners on the day and recorded 4 hits, as Molencupp, McKenna HendricksonHarmony Bailey, and Taylor Thome all earned the trip to first base.

The Sabercats scored the most runs of their day against the Minnesota-Morris Cougars, as MBU plated 2 runners in the first inning and 1 in the fourth. Bailey and Molencupp recorded RBI while Jess ChristensenTrisha Wright, and Megan Rasmussen all recorded hits. Rasmussen also turned an unassisted double play in the fourth inning, as she reinforced the value of her return to the Sabercats' roster for this year. MBU recorded 5 steals in the UMM game. Tina Kolinski snuck to the next base twice while Kylee Zempel, Rasmussen, and Bailey all recorded steals.

The Sabercats had to face Finlandia University once again to conclude the tournament. The Lions proved to be every bit as difficult as they were yesterday, as they tallied more than 20 runs while limiting the Sabercats to 1 run off of 2 hits. Both of the Sabercats' hits were extra-baggers, as Kolinski notched her second career triple and Molencupp recorded her first double for Maranatha.

THE STATS

Molencupp was the only Sabercat to record more than 1 hit.

The Sabercats were pretty clean with their fielding, as they were charged with just 1 error in 63 chances on the day.
