THE LEAD

WATERTOWN, Wis. -- The Sabercats came close in the second game today, but their search for the first win of the season was put on further hold against the NCU Rams.

The second game of the day yielded 27 runs between the 2 teams, but the Sabercats could not find the winning recipe.

THE STORY

North Central did all of their scoring in the first game in the first 3 innings of the first game, as they used 6 hits and 2 Sabercat errors to push 10 runs across. The Sabercats could only manage 2 hits off of NCU's Emma Bushey, as Tina Kolinski and Trisha Wright managed base hits.

-----

Game 2 was an offensive explosion, as the teams combined for 27 runs. Harmony Bailey led the charge for the Sabercats by notching 3 hits, and Tina Kolinski knocked in 5 runs in the second act.

The two teams traded runs in the first 3 innings, but NCU posted 5 in the top of the fourth to make it a 10-3 game. A highlight moment came in the bottom of the fourth when Kolinski and Janae Jorgensen both tripled in a 2-run showing for MBU. After the 2-run fourth, the Sabercats plated 4 runs in the fifth inning. This time, a poorly-timed error from North Central allowed Kolinski to knock in 4 runs with one swing of the bat. Bailey followed that up with a double, but the Sabercats' damage was limited to 4 runs.

Just when the game was within reach, the Rams posted 6 runs in the top of the seventh inning to put the game on ice.

THE STATS

The first 4 batters for Maranatha recorded 7 of the 8 Sabercat hits on the day.

Kolinski registered 5 RBI off 1 hit in game 2.

Bailey led Maranatha in the second game with 3 hits, 2 RBI, and 1 run.

That was Kolinski's third triple this season and Jorgensen's second career 3-base hit.

Megan Rasmussen and Jorgensen each posted an RBI in game 2.
